Understanding Our Point System
The DBrightest Fantasy League uses a comprehensive point system designed to reward various aspects of golf performance. This scoring system ensures that both consistent play and exceptional moments are valued, creating an engaging fantasy experience.
Key Principles of Our Scoring System
- Performance-Based: Points are awarded based on actual golf performance, not subjective criteria
- Balanced Approach: Rewards both consistency (making cuts, par rounds) and exceptional play (birdies, eagles)
- Tournament Finish: Significant point bonuses for high tournament finishes
- Special Achievements: Bonus points for remarkable achievements like hole-in-ones or bogey-free rounds
Our scoring system is updated periodically based on user feedback and golf trends. The current point system (Version 3.2) has been in effect since January 2024.
Scoring Categories
Points are awarded across multiple categories to provide a comprehensive evaluation of your fantasy team’s performance.
Category | Description | Points |
---|---|---|
Hole Performance | Points for individual hole scores | -1 to +15 |
Round Bonuses | Additional points for special round achievements | +3 to +10 |
Tournament Finish | Points based on final tournament position | +5 to +30 |
Cut Status | Points for making or missing the cut | -5 to +5 |
Special Achievements | Points for exceptional golf moments | +3 to +15 |
Each of these categories is designed to create a balanced scoring system that rewards different aspects of golf performance.
Hole-by-Hole Scoring
The foundation of our scoring system is based on individual hole performance. Points are awarded or deducted based on how a golfer performs on each hole relative to par.
Score | Description | Points |
---|---|---|
Double Bogey or worse | Two or more strokes over par | -1 point |
Bogey | One stroke over par | -0.5 points |
Par | Equal to par | 0 points |
Birdie | One stroke under par | +2 points |
Eagle | Two strokes under par | +5 points |
Albatross | Three strokes under par | +10 points |
Hole-in-One | One stroke on a hole | +15 points |
Note: For a hole-in-one on a par 3, a player receives +15 points (not the birdie or eagle points). For a hole-in-one on a par 4 or par 5, the player receives both the hole-in-one points (+15) and the appropriate points for the score relative to par (eagle or albatross).
Tournament Bonuses
Significant bonus points are awarded based on a golfer’s final position in the tournament. These points reward strong overall performance and can significantly impact your fantasy score.
Tournament Finish | Points |
---|---|
1st Place (Winner) | +30 points |
2nd-5th Place | +20 points |
6th-10th Place | +15 points |
11th-25th Place | +10 points |
26th-50th Place | +5 points |
Cut Status
Points are also awarded or deducted based on whether a golfer makes or misses the cut:
- Making the Cut: +5 points
- Missing the Cut: -5 points
- Withdrawal or Disqualification: -10 points
Important: In no-cut tournaments (such as limited-field or match play events), the “Making the Cut” bonus is not applied. Instead, players receive points based on their final position or completion of the tournament.
Special Events and Major Championships
Major championships and select special events feature enhanced scoring to reflect their importance in the golf calendar.
Major Championships Point Boost
For the four major championships (The Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and The Open Championship), all points are multiplied by 1.5x. This includes:
- Hole-by-hole scoring (birdies, eagles, etc.)
- Tournament finish bonuses
- Round bonuses
- Special achievement bonuses
Round Bonuses
Additional points are awarded for exceptional round performances:
Achievement | Points |
---|---|
Streak of three or more consecutive birdies | +3 points |
Bogey-free round | +5 points |
Round of 65 or lower | +5 points |
Lowest round of the day | +5 points |
Course or tournament record round | +10 points |
Tiebreakers and Captain Multiplier
In the event of a tie in a fantasy tournament, we use a series of tiebreakers to determine the winner.
Tiebreaker System
- Most tournament winners: The player with the most tournament winners in their lineup
- Highest individual scorer: The player with the highest-scoring individual golfer
- Most eagles: The player whose team scored the most eagles
- Most birdies: The player whose team scored the most birdies
- Captain performance: The player whose captain scored the most points
Captain Multiplier
When creating your team, you can designate one golfer as your “Captain.” This player’s points are multiplied by 1.5x, making this selection crucial to your fantasy strategy.
Captain Strategy Tips
- Choose a golfer with a high ceiling who can accumulate birdies and eagles
- Consider course specialists who historically perform well at the tournament venue
- For major championships, experienced players who perform well under pressure are often good captain choices
- Balance risk and reward – a missed cut by your captain can be devastating to your score
